| As home to the only two producing gold mines in the area, Balmertown is the economic backbone of the Red Lake region. With a population of around 1,700, Balmertown was the first planned community in the Red Lake District. This quiet community located off of highway 125 may also serve as one of the prominent recreational hubs of the area. If golf is your game, then you won’t want to miss out on playing the most northerly 18-hole course in Ontario. This fairway offers an excellent mix of long holes, open and wooded areas, elevation changes and water. And what’s better, all of this is set in the beauty of Ontario’s Sunset Country. The clubhouse features change rooms, and locker and storage facilities, as well as an air-conditioned licenced lounge/restaurant with seating for 100. But why waste a beautiful summer’s day being indoors when you can relax and dine on the spacious deck overlooking Red Lake. Don’t forget to stop by the Pro Shop before you hit the greens. It features a great selection of quality golf clubs, bags, clothing and accessories. Also, club and power cart rentals are available through the Pro Shop. The club is open daily from May to October. |
