The Municipality of Red Lake is home to about 4,700 residents and includes the communities of Red Lake, Balmertown, Cochenour, Madsen/Starratt-Olsen and McKenzie Island. It is located 170 km (100 miles) north of the Trans-Canada Highway by Ontario Highway 105. The area boasts a thriving tourism industry and offers a number of unique wilderness experiences. The Municipality of Red Lake also serves as the gateway to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park, a designated Signature Site spanning over 450,000 hectares. There is an abundant selection of hotels and restaurants to serve you, as well as modern stores to satisfy any of your shopping needs. The area also features excellent recreational facilities, including an arena, curling rinks, an 18-hole golf course, badminton and squash courts, a lighted baseball field, public beaches, and groomed snow machine trails.
